My Seed Paper Project

For the 2024 STEM Festival, I aimed to create a sustainable alternative to regular paper. My project focused on developing seed paper by controlling the amount of paper pulp. I investigated how different pulp concentrations affected the quality of the seed paper, looking at its thickness, weight, and how well it held seeds.

This project directly relates to Sustainable Development Goals, specifically: Goal 12, Responsible Consumption and Production, by recycling paper; and Goal 15, Life on Land, by promoting plant growth. The results showed that higher pulp concentrations produced stronger seed paper. My work was recognized at the festival with a 3rd place award in the upper secondary level competition. This experience has encouraged me to continue exploring simple, effective ways to support environmental sustainability.

How to Use Seed Paper

Step 1: Prepare

Choose a sunny spot in your garden or a pot with soil. Tear the seed paper into smaller pieces if needed.

Step 2: Plant

Place the seed paper on top of the soil and cover it lightly with a thin layer of soil (about 1/4 inch).

Step 3: Water

Water the soil regularly to keep it moist. Be patient, as germination can take 1-2 weeks.

Step 4: Sunlight

Ensure the planted area receives plenty of sunlight. Most seeds need 6-8 hours of sunlight daily.

Step 5: Care

Remove weeds and continue watering as needed. Watch your seeds grow into beautiful plants!

Step 6: Recycle

Once the plants grow, the paper will naturally decompose, leaving no waste behind.
